Water Damage Due To A Pipe Break

Water damage due to pipe breakIf you are facing water damage due to a pipe break, you should take photos of the damaged areas immediately and make an insurance claim. Take pictures of all damage and have an independent professional inspect the damage before submitting your claim. Make sure to keep records of all the repairs you have made, including the deductible. Insurance companies may require proof of the deductible before they can give you a check for the damages. However, most homeowners insurance companies cover water damage due to a pipe break.

It's important to stop water flow as soon as possible. In many cases, homeowners have only three days to file a claim for water damage. If you're unsure whether your policy covers the damage, contact a public adjuster to review your policy. They can review your policy and explain what your coverage includes. It's also important to dry flooded areas as soon as possible. The longer water sits, the greater the risk of mold growth and long-term damage to your home.

If you suspect a pipe break, listen for metallic clangs, as these are a warning sign of movement. This may be the start of a water leak. While pipes aren't supposed to move, they often tremble when water flows through them. Depending on the size and location of the pipe break, the water will move a lot more.

If your home's thermostat was working properly, you should be able to get a check on the temperature. If the temperature is too low, you might be in trouble. If your home is cold, you should turn off the water before you leave town. In addition, shutting off the water supply valve will prevent any more water damage. It is also important to winterize water pipes if you plan to be away for long periods of time.
