Job Description

This position is primarily responsible for coordinating the job estimate in a manner that will be profitable to the company as well as legitimate to the insurance or payment providers and fair to the customers. The estimator ensures the company will receive appropriate compensation for each job by assessing each job, creating estimates, coordinating with the company staff, subcontractors, vendors, insurance companies, clients and others to facilitate the efficiency and profitability of each job from start to finish. This position will follow up to collect and receive payment from various parties at various stages of the job. This position is essential to coordinate the operational, administrative, and financial viability of jobs on an individual basis.

➢ Position Overview: The Estimator is an integral part of the success of the company and holds a key role in the coordination of duties between departments and outside parties and in handling the entire claims process including from the start of mitigation to the closing of a rebuild.

SCOPE AND RANGE

This is a full-time, regular administratively exempt position, which performs the majority of work in the office or administrative setting and may occasionally enter the field to complete on-site estimates, evaluations, follow-up, other tasks and duties as required to perform the function of the position. The work is primarily non-manual and is primarily related to the management and coordination of projects essential to the viability of the general business operations and directly related to the customer. The employee will have the primary duty of exercising discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of job completion from start to finish, which is a significant matter to the success of the company.

Secondarily, this position manages a project subdivision of the Claims Department. This position regularly directs and collaborates with the Project coordinators, Level I and Level II; and this position holder’s suggestion and recommendations as to matters concerning hiring, termination, advancement, promotion, or change of status of the Project Coordinators is given a particular decisional weight

• Full-time: Average work week is 40 to 50 hours

Exempt: 

Position is exempt from minimum wage and overtime as described primarily in the Administrative exemption with additional Executive exemption considerations.

The employee will be compensated on a salary or fee basis at a rate not less than $684* per week and is exempt from minimum wage and overtime based on:

Primarily: Administrative

  • The employee’s primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer or the employer’s customers; and
  • The employee’s primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance and financial viability of the company.

Secondarily: Executive

  • The employee’s primary duty must be managing the enterprise, or managing a customarily recognized department or subdivision of the enterprise
  • The employee must customarily and regularly direct the work of at least two or more other full-time employees or their equivalent; and
  • The employee must have the authority to hire or fire other employees, or the employee’s suggestions and recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of other employees must be given particular weight.

  • Conflict Resolution with distressed parties in order to find satisfactory solutions for all parties involved

  • Using Xactimate to create invoices and estimates
  • Analyzing properties through photos, communications, videos, or on-site inspections
  • Creation, Submission and presentational delivery of estimates

  • Has the ability to utilize standard computer programs, such as Word, Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, at a basic level sufficient to complete all duties and tasks required for the position.
  • Has the ability to interpret, navigate, and utilize company-specific programs, such as Xactimate, DASH, and others as determined by the company to be required for the flow of business.
  • Has the ability to effectively communicate with multiple people holding different perspectives of the job including, but not limited to: communicating, providing clarification, resolving issues, and other communication as needed with clients, customers, vendors, employees, subcontractors, insurance representatives, or others the expectations, processes, progress, changes, estimations, and any other communication needed to coordinate, resolve, and complete each service job from open to close.
  • Communication requires being the central point of contact for multiple parties and may include both giving and receiving in-person conversations, creation of documents and visuals, emails, text messages, notes, letters, phone calls, and other as required for proper estimates and job coordination.
  • Communication functions include, but are not limited to the ability to effectively present and deliver information in a way that is easily understood and ensures consistent results as well as the ability to understand and interpret communication from others in order to apply it to each job as required.
  • Communication includes providing, demonstrating, and showing justifications to all interested parties who are authorized to receive that information.

  • Has mid to high-level math skills, which includes the ability to use Algebraic formulas and may also use Geometry and Trigonometry occasionally

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Qualifications

  • IICRC Certification/Water Restoration Technician required
  • Associates or equivalent experience required

  • Knowledge of construction/rebuilding, and restoration basics
  • 2 or more years each of Xactimate experience in both Mitigation and Rebuild required
  • Experience in Damage Restoration/Mitigation and Construction/Rebuilds must equate to a strong ability to facilitate the mitigation to rebuild process from start to finish

The physical requirements of the job may include, but are not limited to:

  • Sitting for long periods of time at a desk, or standing if a standing desk

  • Bending, stooping, reaching as required of an administrative position in order to file, or perform other tasks and duties
  • Typing or key entry
  • Visual assessment of damage photos for estimates
  • Lifting such as to load paper into the printer or move office supplies and furniture
  • May include other physical requirements as required
